Aromatherapy... More than essential oils

Aromatherapy isn’t all about essential oils! One of the things I absolutely love about my old stone farmhouse is its wood stove... and there is nothing better than a crackling fire and the aroma of a hearty pot of soup. It makes me feel all safe, cosy, warm, protected, loved and nourished.

The science nerd in me wants to explain that, that is because our sense of smell connects directly to the limbic area of our brain. This is the area responsible for mood, emotion and memory, so what’s actually going on is it’s triggering memories of happy times in my childhood when Mum would cook a pot of soup on the wood stove and we’d come together to share it and connect as a family... but right now, I’m not too worried about the science, I’m just happy basking in the feeling and enjoying my pea and ham soup for lunch!
